5 Star Burgers

While I have been to 5 Star Burgers in Clayton before (many, many times...), I'd never been to the one in Kirkwood. Because I am a very thorough reviewer and I care about you, I felt that I should go and make sure 5 Star Kirkwood lived up to its predecessor. First up: Dad's Green Chile Cheeseburger ($9.50). Crispy New Mexico Hatch Chilies, Pepper Jack Cheese, Green Chile Mayonnaise. Straight up, it's the best burger at 5 Star. I haven't even had all the burgers and I'm telling you that. Why? Because Hatch chilies. More restaurants should use these so they get instant brownie points from me. My dad also had some avocado added, just to further enhance that Southwestern taste.

You may notice that there is no bottom bun here; that's by request, not because they serve them this way.

Maybe that burger sounds incredibly amazing to you, but you're trying to be healthy and not eat red meat. Never fear! The Green Chile Chicken Breast ($9.00) is here to save the day. The flavors are obviously similar, but instead of a juicy beef patty, you get a grilled seasoned chicken breast. Not as good as the regular burger version, but still a solid choice for your meal.

Knowing my dad and sister were both looking to get green chile sandwiches, I decided to go off and try something different. It was a tough decision, but I picked the lamb burger ($11.00) with fried pickles, olive tapenade and a tzatziki sauce. As usual, I made a good decision. This was way better than the lamb burgers I made at home a few weeks ago. It had the same charred exterior the beef burgers have and was just as juicy. The olive tapenade was solid, but the fried pickles added that special something. While they didn't make me forget about the fried hatch chiles (missin' u boo), they have earned a special place in my heart's stomach. I would definitely order a basket of these on the side next time.

As I hoped, 5 Star Kirkwood is just like 5 Star Clayton, except it has better parking options. If you enjoy burgers and fries, which means everyone on earth, you should check out either 5 Star next time you're looking for a spot to eat.
