Companion Cafe

There's no restaurant I've visited more over the last year than the Companion Cafe in Ladue. I pop in for a healthy salad, a piece of cornbread, a loaf of pretzel bread, a loaf of that other bread that looks good, ooh that gooey butter cake, and then merrily head home. Good news: winter may be coming, but Companion's new lunch specials have already arrived.

When I was there on Monday, I saw that the Go Green salad had made its return. It's a simple salad, but it's one of my favorites. Kale is mixed with butternut squash--the taste of fall--plus parmesan cheese and sliced almonds. Drizzle that with their fresh lemon and olive oil vinaigrette and you have yourself a tasty little lunch.

I'm not sure if it was on the menu last year or not, but the Jack Frost sandwich sounded mighty fine to me, so I got that too. I think this and one of their soups would be an excellent meal. The toasted sandwich has tender short rib meat, all meaty and delicious, some arugula, sweet red onions and some melted jack cheese. I ordered mine untoasted so I could go home and play with my food, as you see below, then toasted that bad boy.

The other winter specials are up on their site and rotate weekly at each cafe; check'em out now at Companion Bread. Cocktail Party Apples, brie and apricot jam toasted on our rustic walnut bread
