Kapnos

Washington, DC

As I was writing my best dishes of the year list, I realized I never posted anything about my meal at Kapnos in DC! Shameful. This is Mike Isabella's fine Greek restaurant with a menu made up of spreads, small plates and huge hunks of meat.

I won't go into too many details since I don't remember most of them, but I can say that months later a few things still stand out:

  • The freshly baked flatbread was incredible and the perfect accompaniment to the spreads.

  • The charred octopus was one of the best I've ever had. I actually don't think I've ever had it so tender before. I'm still mad I had to share it.

  • Spoiler: That whole lamb shoulder was one of the best things I ate in 2014. Just look at this thing before it was shredded. I was sure we'd have some leftover, but we absolutely did not. I'm salivating just thinking about it.

It was a great meal.  I would love to return next time I'm in DC.
