I can't remember how I found Pita Plus, but I'm glad I did. This tiny and unassuming restaurant is on Olive Blvd in the same shopping center as Joojoo and across the street from Gobble Stop Smokehouse. The menu isn't huge, but it has enough variation for the whole family. This last visit, I got the [symple_highlight color="blue"]Tandoori chicken pita[/symple_highlight] ($7.86) and two [symple_highlight color="blue"]falafel balls[/symple_highlight] ($0.80 each). The tandoori chicken tenders are marinated in yogurt and spices, baked, then served with tzatziki and hot sauce. I know it's a bit strange to get tandoori chicken at a Mediterranean restaurant, but I think this dish has more flavor than their normal grilled chicken.
Nine times out of ten, I will get their gyro platter. The gyro meat is pretty tasty, plus it comes with a cheese or spinach burreka (phyllo dough pastry), a middle-eastern salad, pickles, olives and either a white or wheat pita, all for $8.76. It's a lot of food for not very much money.
My favorite thing at Pita Plus has to be the falafel balls, though. Ground chickpeas are blended with fresh herbs, onion, garlic and spices, then deep fried until crispy. Dip these in some tahini and hot sauce and you've got yourself little bites of happiness. I haven't found falafel balls anywhere else I liked more.
The biggest downside is that the small restaurant and staff size means you'll likely have to get your food to go, and you may have to wait a little longer than you'd prefer to get it, but it's worth. Just make sure you ask for some extra hot sauce on the side.
